JEOPARDY!
CUSTOMIZE YOUR OWN GAME
Jeopardy originates from a famous American game show and It has become viral. Now, thanks to the help of technology, with a few simple steps, you can customize your own Jeopardy to play. PowerPoint has full features and interactive functions to create your own game show.
OVERVIEW
As simple as its name, the game is quite simple. There will be host and contestants but unlike usual quiz games. The clue is the question, like:” He is white, He is a rapper and won an Oscar but didn’t show up”. While, the answer for this quiz is a question:” Who is Eminem?” Also for this game, It covers many types of aspects, from music to politics, or sports.
Quite interesting, huh? So, let’s jump to the process of creating your own board game.
CREATE GAME BOARD
The very first step to designing your jeopardy is building a game dashboard. For your preference, you can either add a table or add series of rectangle shapes.
CREATE TABLE
You may find the ‘Insert’ tab in the toolbar. Then click on ‘Table’ and choose the dimensions. It’s quite easy with these few steps. Next thing, I will show you how to add shapes to your game board.
ADD SERIES OF SHAPES
You can find the ‘Shape’ option in the ‘Insert’ tab then search in the list for your favorite shape. In this tutorial, I will choose rounded rectangles. You can create one shape and then copy it by dragging the shape while pressing the ‘Ctrl’ button.
And then, It’s time to fill your table with creative ideas! By double click on the shape and text, you can customize your game with any idea you come up with. You can format the text by selecting it and make fun with the ‘Font’ tool.
CREATING SUBJECT SLIDE
In this tutorial, we will play with four main subjects: Music, History, Literature, and Physics.
ADDING TITLE
You can find the ‘text box’ function in the ‘insert’ tab -> type your title, subtitle and then play with the font tool.
In this tutorial, with each subject, we will have four questions. So, we will need four buttons. Click the ‘Insert’ tab, click ‘shapes’ and choose your favorite ones. You can decorate your shapes with ‘Shape fill’, ‘Shape outline’ and ‘Shape effects’. Then number the shapes and make them visually appealing.
CREATING QUIZ AND ANSWER SLIDE
Following the tutorial, you can customize your own clue and answer slides. Now, I will show you how to link the work together.
First, you need to create your quiz-answer pair, then customize it following your theme. After formatting, let me show you how to link everything together.
LINK THE GAME
From the dashboard, we will link each option to each quiz. First, click the box of ‘Literature’, and then click the ‘Hyperlink’ option in the ‘Insert’ tab.
Then the ‘Insert hyperlink’ box will appear -> select ‘Place in this document’ and choose the slide you want to link. In this case, I link the first prize on the dashboard of literature with the first quiz slide. From this on, you only need to repeat the process to link the slides following your order and preference.
BRING THE FUN TO THE NEXT LEVEL
In PowerPoint, you can add videos, pictures, and audio (‘Insert’ tab) to boost the Jeopardy experience.
ADD Animations
Add animation to slides -> make your game more fun Add transition to the slides or objects – using transition and animation functions Add more links to your game so it is easier to go forward or backward.
TEST YOUR GAME
After all the technical processes, you can test the game by pressing F5 or start the slide show in the 'slide show' tab.
And now we come to the best part of the game.
Let’s play with your friends, the rules are quite simple:
- You need to gather two or more people, paper, and a pencil to record the scores.
- One will be the host and the others will be the contestants.
- The host will play the dashboard, while players choose the category and prize. The host will click the respective cell.
- The contestants will have to answer the quiz.
- If it is correct, he/ she will get the point.
- If it is not correct, he/she will get whatever penalty for them.
- After all the quiz is selected, the game ends. The one with the highest score will win the game.
Now let’s try and play it with your friends!
